We believe that missional communities (MC’s) are the primary organizing structure for the church. Disciples are made most effectively on mission, in community, and through life-on-life interactions. Therefore, as a church family we focus primarily on the health and growth of our MC’s.
Jesus calls all of his followers to be radically committed to Him (Matthew 16:24-26). We believe that commitment to Jesus includes commitment to his bride, the Church. As a church family, Southpoint in the Kennebunks expresses our commitment to Jesus and His bride through involvement in Sunday gatherings (gather), MC (go), and in a DNA group (grow); all of which provide ample opportunities to steward the gifts and talents God has given us (give).
Southpoint Church currently is one missional community here in southern Maine made up of a small group of people that have chosen to live life together as a family of missionary servants for the purpose of making disciples who make disciples. We gather Sunday evenings around a meal for the purpose of equipping, training and hanging out together. During the week we connect as often as we can to encourage and challenge one another to be on mission. We also love getting together with our unchurched friends and neighbors around such activities as games, sports, recreation, and BBQ’s in the backyard. As this missional community grows beyond 15 or so people, we will begin another missional community. We believe keeping the number not much more than 15 or so, allows a greater comfortableness for individuals to grow together and have a greater sense of being “family.” Once we have two missional communities, we will begin our Sunday Gathering for corporate worship, sharing of the Word, prayer, fellowship and communion.
